University Of Eldoret Strike, University of Eldoret students went on rampage on Wednesday faulting their administration for releasing exam results late into the semester.

In addition, the students were also expresiing their displeasure with the university organising for supplementary exams just a day after the results had been released.

Business was not as usual at Chepkoilel as students burned tyres and formed barricades interrupting means of transport and businesses around the school. The Ziwa-Junction road by the institution was inaccessible to both motorists and passers-by who feared for their safety.

The antiriot police were deployed minutes later in dispersing the rowdy students by use of tear gas who threw stones at the police in retaliation.

A number of students who took part in the strike were detained for questioning by the police.

Apart from the late release of exam results and the supplementary examinations, the students wanted the institution to lengthen the period of online course registration claiming that it was too short.

Moreover, the student portals were faulty. The police have provided tight security at the institution to curb any occurrences of violence.
