Technical University Of Kenya Rugby, the Kenya Rugby Union vice-chairman Phillip Jalang’o has offered to support the TU-K Rugby team in its quest for excellence.
He made the offer during a kit handover ceremony at the TU-K grounds on November 3, 2015. The kit was donated by the Kenya Rugby Union. Jalango said that he was ready to give all the necessary technical support to ensure the university team to do well in competitions. “I will ensure that you get an international rugby coach from England or Australia to give a full day of rugby training to the entire team and coaching staff,” said Jalango.
Present during the ceremony was the TU-K head of sports, Mr Maurice Ochieng who also encouraged the players to maintain discipline and hard work in order to play rugby professionally. “Former TU-K players such as Horace Otieno and Victor Oduor “Opong” worked hard and are playing professional rugby, said Ochieng.
The team captain, Samson Njoroge, expressed gratitude for the kind gesture and promised an even greater year for the side. “The boys have been working hard and growing as a team. I am certain that these generous acts will enable us achieve Kenya Cup success next year.
The team has bagged two trophies this year; the shield trophy from this year’s Kabeberi Sevens and also emerged Division II champions in the National Sevens Circuit. The TU-K team are also the current champions of the University Kings of Rugby Tournament for the Nairobi region.
