Maseno University 15th Graduation, Maseno University on 11th December 2015 graduated over 3,838 students during its 15th Graduation Ceremony at the Graduation Square in Siriba Campus.
The ceremony was presided over by the Chancellor Dr. Michael Joseph.
Among the graduands 25 were awarded PhD, 116 Masters, 24 and 3,303 Bachelors, while 24 were conferred Post Graduate Diploma, 280 ordinary Diploma and 90 certificates.
The Chancellor Dr. Michael Joseph in his address to the congregation said that Maseno University has distinguished itself as a premier institution in teaching and research. The University continues to be at the forefront of knowledge acquisition and dissemination among the leading institutions in the East African region and the rest of Africa. ‘I note, with appreciation, for instance, that the existing partnership between the University and the Swiss Tropical and Public Health Institute in Switzerland, among others, provides an avenue for the internationalization of the research agenda of the University.
This collaboration aims at generating new knowledge for the enhancement of social protection mechanisms for maternal health care which the Kenyan government is keen on implementing’, he noted.

The Acting Vice Chancellor Prof. Joseph Chacha said that the graduands were prepared to enter the job market. He also appreciated Maseno University for being among the first universities to implement the government policy on accelerated intake.
“We are proud to be among the first universities to achieve the goal of accelerated intake to clear the backlog of KCSE graduands who hitherto would stay home for over two years before joining university’, he observed.
He continued, “This is a team well prepared to face the world and create more job opportunities.”
The Chairman of University Council Prof. Rosalind Mutua called upon the staff and students to maintain high standard of moral and ethical behavior. While condemning the recent fire incidence and unrest among students that led to closure of the University, Prof. Mutua cautioned that anyone who will be found culpable in of the acts will dealt with according to the University rules and regulations and the law of the land.
During the ceremony three graduands were presented with commendation awards for their excellent academic performance coupled with outstanding contribution to the society.
The three are Stacey Saida who was awarded leadership excellence, Friday Maroa Bwiyere who was awarded academic excellence and Philemon Keruda Obwocha awarded inclusive academic excellence.
While presenting the awards, the Deputy Vice- Chancellor, Academic and Student Affairs Prof. Mary Kipsat urged the students to continue with their roles in the society as it was key in helping realize a better society.
Those present at the ceremony included Governor for Kisumu County His Excellency Jack Ranguma, incoming-Vice Chancellor Prof. Julius Nyabundi among others.
