Dedan Kimathi University Of Technology Strike, Workers at Nyeri’s Dedan Kimathi University of Technology (DeKUT) have gone on strike demanding a raise in allowances.

Members of three unions went on strike on Monday, saying the administration was intimidating them and accused their employer of delaying negotiations.

The University Academic Staff Union (Uasu), Kenya Universities Staff Union (Kusu) and Kenya Union of Domestic, Hotels, Educational Institutions, Hospitals and Allied Workers (Kudheiha) are involved in the strike.

NO AGREEMENT

The university management and employees failed to reach an agreement on Thursday last week, prompting workers to declare the strike.

The union leaders said workers earned Sh4,340 in house to work allowances and demanded that the amount be raised to Sh16,000.
