Technical University Of Kenya News, the Engineers Board of Kenya (EBK) has accredited Engineering programs offered at The Technical University of Kenya.
Following boards visit on February 26, 2019 at the University, EBK issued the all-important approval of both Bachelor of Engineering in Civil Engineering and Bachelor of Engineering in Mechanical Engineering programmes.
EBK Registrar, Eng. Nicholas Musuni, formally wrote to the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Francis Aduol, on March 8, 2019 informing him of the decision by the regulator to accredit the programmes at TU-K.
The letter was also copied to the Ministry of Transport, Infrastructure, Housing and Urban Development, Public Works Principal Secretary, Mr. Julius Korir, Ministry of Education, State Department for University Education and Research, Principal Secretary, Prof. Colleta A. Suda and Commission for University Education Chief Executive Officer, Prof. Mwenda Ntarangwi.
“The Board verified that the programmes and found they met the minimum requirements with respect to curriculum, staff and critical laboratory equipment. The Board therefore decided that the programmes be granted interim accreditation for a period of two years,” the communication read in part.
The letter further noted that the thematic leadership in the programmes was demonstrated by the presence of the thematic leaders.
The Engineering Board also submitted an accreditation report from their visit. The team made consultations with the university management, interacted with students and toured workshops and laboratories.
Subject to this communication, the university is expected to prepare and submit staff recruitment and development plan, staff mentorship programme for professional registration and student mentorship programme.
The university will also submit a Memorandum of Understanding for carrying out practicals in other institutions as well as a plan for equipment upgrading plan.
During their visit in February, EBK Chairman, Eng. D. M Wanjau lauded TU-K for the right steps the institution was taking towards full accreditation of her engineering courses
He commended hands-on training at TU-K noting that the University was in the right track if filling the shortage of skilled-based graduates in the market.
Eng. Wanjau said he was impressed by the University library saying though small in size, it had a huge repository of e-books which enables students and other library users to access scholarly materials, journals and publications with ease from even outside the institution.
During the consultative meeting, VC Prof. Aduol on his part assured the board about the University’s commitment to working together to fulfil the regulator’s requirements in full.
