Laikipia University Student Burnt To Death, a Laikipia University student died following an accidental fire that broke out Friday night at their Mucwa home in Chuka-Igambangombe.
The student’s mother was injured while his three siblings escaped the fire unscathed.
Police retrieved body of the student, Brian Maina, from a kitchen area after putting out the fire that had gutted the whole structure, destroying property of unknown value.
The body of Mr Maina was taken to Chuka County Referral Hospital mortuary for preservation. Mr Maina’s mother was also rushed to a Chuka health facility for emergency treatment.
According to the victims’ neighbour, Lewis Kithiubi, he heard distress calls at midnight; and when he rushed to the scene, he found Maina’s house on fire.
The neighbours’ efforts to save Maina bore no fruits.
The cause of the fire remains unknown, but authorities suspect it could be due to an electrical fault.
The deceased’s father identified as Pastor Njagi was away on night prayer fellowship in church when the incident happened.
Kithiubi has appealed to the county government of Tharka-Nithi to provide efficient firefighting equipment to the region, as this would help avert such tragic incidences.
