Catholic University Of Eastern Africa Kisumu Campus, The University will close its campuses in Kisumu City and Nairobi City Campus. In a statement on October 17, the VC, Prof. Justus Mbae said that this was part of the turnaround strategy for the institution to better utilize its resources.
The closures will take effect in January 2018. Prof. Mbae indicated that this decision was arrived at in consultations with the University Council, Trustees, stakeholders and Senate.
Prof. Mbae also added that there had been careful considerations of the effect of these closures. “This decision has been arrived at after a careful consideration of the effect it will have on the students, staff and all those concerned,” his statement read.
He further added that necessary arrangements were being made to ensure a smooth transition for the students studying in these campuses. The Commission for University Education had also been notified.
The Vice Chancellor further urged those with any feedback on these closures to channel it through the Directors in the two campuses.
Prof. Mbae indicated that it was really sad to have to close the campuses but assured students that the modalities put in place will ensure that they ‘complete their studies in the most equitable manner without compromising quality.’
With these closures the University will remain with the Gaba (Eldoret) campus and the main campus (Langata) in operation. The University also runs programmes on the Online Distance and e-Learning (ODeL) platform.
