KMTC PHARMACY | Kenya Medical Training College Pharmacy

KMTC PHARMACY; Established in 1927 to train local pharmaceutical personnel to meet local needs, KMTC’s department of pharmacy pioneered the training of pharmacy personnel in the country.

Today, the department is the leading trainer of middle level manpower in pharmacy at diploma and higher diploma for the country and the East African region.

Propelled by the theme “Improving pharmaceutical services through training and research”, the department has also aggressively embarked on research.

Started as a certificate course in 1927, it changed into a diploma I 1968. Since then, the programme has grown in strength. It currently graduates about 90 students annually.

Minimum entry requirements

KCSE minimum aggregate C plain with the following specific requirements: C in English or Kiswahili and Chemistry or Physical Science and Biology, and C in any one of the following: Physics, Mathematics.
Any qualification considered equivalent by the academic board.

The programme is offered at Nairobi, Mombasa, Manza, Kisumu, Nakuru and Nyeri MTCs.

Job opportunities
KMTC graduates of the programme constitute 90 percent of the pharmaceutical workforce in the country. They work in:

public hospitals,
private hospitals,
mission hospitals,
Pharmaceutical industries
community pharmacies,
research institutions

Duration of KMTC Pharmacy Program

It is a three year programme consisting of:

Two years full time in class for lectures and practicals in the laboratory.
7 months attachment in hospitals, industries and community pharmacies.
Two months in class after attachment to complete the remaining course work and prepare for qualifying examinations.
