Admissions Requirements
Since Kenya Highlands Evangelical University is an educational institution supported and operated by the Africa Gospel Church in partnership with World Gospel Mission, it has a commitment to function first and foremost to service its constituency throughout the broad ministries of the church. However, the University is non-discriminatory regarding gender, ethnic group, denomination, physical ability or economic status, in its policy of student admissions provided candidates for matriculation into its programmes are sincerely desiring quality evangelical Christian education, meet the academic and other entrance requirements, and are willing to submit to the policies and ethos of the University.
Only those applicants who submit the appropriate supporting documents and who meet the academic, character, and spiritual requirements of the respective programme in the college, and who express willingness to comply with its policies will be considered for possible admission. Applicants should refer to the “Programme Regulations” sections of the catalogue for any unique programme admission requirements.
Degree requirements
a. Direct Entry
- Kenya Secondary School leavers must satisfy the minimum University entrance requirements for public universities in Kenya. These standards may be obtained from the Registrar’s Office.
- Meet the minimum requirements for the selected major area.
b. International Student Admission
- Non-Kenyan applicants must have met minimum entry requirements for public College or equivalent in their own country of residence.
- Non-Kenyan applicants must meet all admission requirements for the programme they wish to enter.
c. Transfer Student Admission
- Transfer students may be admitted to advanced standing on presentation of an official transcript of satisfactory scholarship from an accredited degree level institution. KHEU will accept credits of courses related to our programme in which a grade of “C” or better was attained.
d. Mature Age Entry Requirements (Limited to 10% of total student enrollment)
Under the mature age entry scheme students seeking admission must:
- Possess a minimum grade of C on KCSE or its equivalent.*
- Be 25 years of age or older on 1st September of the year admission is sought.
- Achieve a minimum grade of C+ in each course taken to accumulate an initial 12 credit hours with a minimum cumulative grade point average of 2.3.
- Have at least three years of experience in their respective profession.
- Submit a recommendation from their superiors that they are qualified to profit from KHEU education.
e. Part-time Student Admission
- Students who seek admission into the program for academic credit yet electing not to pursue a degree, or registering for less than 12 hours per term.
- Such students (including those registering for inter-terms) must meet all the stated admission requirements for the program.
Diploma Requirements
a. Direct Entry
- Kenya Secondary School leavers must satisfy the minimum entrance requirements for public diploma institutions in Kenya. These standards may be obtained from the Registrar’s Office.
b. International Student Admission
- Non-Kenyan applicants must have met minimum entrance requirements for public diploma institutions in their own country of residence.
- Those who have completed accredited Bible schools will be considered.
c.Transfer Student Admission
- Transfer students may be admitted to advanced standing in the programme on presentation of an official transcript of satisfactory scholarship from a diploma level institution.
- KHEU will accept credits of courses related to our programme in which a grade of “C” or better was attained.
- Transfer of credit for KHEU courses may not exceed 48 credit hours.
- A minimum of 48 credit hours must be earned at KHEU.
d. Mature Age Entry Requirements
Under the mature age entry scheme students seeking admission must:
- Be 25 years of age or older on 1st September of the year admission is sought.
- Be a secondary school leaver, or have completed two years of an accredited Bible school, attaining a B- cumulative average.
- Achieve a minimum grade of C in each course taken to accumulate an initial 12 credit hours with a minimum cumulative grade point average of 2.0.
- Three years of certifiable experience in pastoral or church related ministries.
- Submit a recommendation from their superiors that they are qualified to profit from KHEU education.
e. Part-time Student Admission
- Students seeking admission for academic credit yet electing either not to pursue an Advanced Diploma, or registering for less than 12 hours per term.
- Such students (including those registering for inter-terms) must meet all the stated admission requirements for the program.
Additional Requirements for Degree and Diploma Programmes
1. Spiritual Standards of Admission
In order to achieve the mission and purposes of the college, applicants should recognize the importance of spiritual as well as academic prerequisites for satisfactory achievement of a quality Christian education.
Towards that end, the following is expected of all applicants:
- A clear expression of a personal intention to pursue an evangelically interpreted lifestyle of Christ-like holiness in attitude and action.
- Demonstrable Christian vocational experience through active participation and leadership involvement in a local church or Christian organization.
- Respect for the college Statement of Faith, Philosophy and Ethos Statement, and Code of Conduct.
- A sincere desire to deepen one’s understanding of God’s truth through pursuit of an emphatically Christian education focused on the Biblical foundations of all knowledge in order to address the needs of church and society informed by the authority of a Christian world-view.
2. English Proficiency Requirement for Kenya Highlands Evangelical University January 2017 Intake
- Students whose secondary school instruction language was not English should give evidence of English proficiency for approval by the Admissions Office.
- Those whose first language is not English, and who attended schools in a country where English is not the official language are required to sit the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) to prove their proficiency, and to submit the score to the KHEURegistrar.
- The minimum acceptable score attained within the previous two years of application in TOEFL is 500.
